Synopsis

I am Luna van Wyk. A 14 year old girl. This is the story of Mignon “Mossie” Van Wyk, my older sister. Oh and her best friend Adriaan Prinsloo, who I think she should marry. But that’s just me. For some weird reason Mossie falls in love with older guys – enter Leon Rossouw – obviously without a shirt.

This is a story about love, naturally, but it’s more about being a teenager and how rough life can be.

It’s a story about monsters and running shoes.

About letting go and holding on.

About friendship.

It’s a story about my sister and how she learns to fly.

Synopsis

Returning to her home town, Eden Rock, and overwhelmed by the birth of her first born, Chloe van Heerden (19) tries to come to terms with motherhood. Along with the troubled relationship between her and her mother, Ruby (35), Chloe struggles with the demand of being a new mom. The incessant crying of her baby, the growing sense of guilt and paranoia sends Chloe into a dark depression. With a heightened urge to protect her son, Chloe sees danger in every situation.

Distraught she pays a visit to family psychiatrist Dr. Timothy Reed (40s), who diagnoses her intrusive thoughts and feelings of anxiousness to a mild case of baby blues. Yet the thoughts grow worse and more violent. Chloe starts to hear voices and humming of a childhood lullaby and sees flashes of a strange entity around her child. Convinced that the entity is real, Chloe does everything in her power to protect her son. Her decline reaches fever pitch, and everyone seems to be moving against her. Desperate, Chloe finds solace in the arms of her childhood friend, Emile Hess (20s).

The world around Chloe implodes and it becomes clear that she and her child are in imminent danger.

But from what?

Is Chloe haunted by evil or is it just the baby blues?

Synopsis

The Land of Milk and Money takes a satirical look at a contemporary South Africa and makes use of a combination of situational, physical and sketch comedic devices in order to tell the story of three characters searching for their own Land of Milk and Money.

If one had to describe the type of comedy content it would be something between Trevor Noah’s hugely popular stand-up comedy and Leon Schuster’s iconic candid camera. Stylistically the references would be The Dictator meets Monty Python. Leon Schuster and Trevor Noah are both masters of comedy and have perfected the art of exploring various cultural, socio-economic differences and stereotypes in a hilarious and highly entertaining way. It is our aim to be as entertaining, hilarious, relevant and accessible to an audience whilst bringing The Land of Milk and Money to life.

The film follows the antics of three accidental time travellers who each represent a different segment of society - a Jew, a Christian, and a Muslim. In the distant past they discover a map to the The Land of Milk and Money, but after a feud in the jail, where they unfortunately reside, the three charlatans each end up with a third of the torn map. This forces them to work together in order to find their way to this ‘promised land’.

They escape and follow the map to a magical waterhole. They are engulfed and torpedoed into the future. The three reluctant heroes, frightened and overwhelmed at first, quickly find their feet in modern society and learn to exploit mass media, become self-help gurus, endorse a product or two and host their own reality show, whilst on their way to find The Land of Milk and Money.

The film explores the perceptions we have of others on the basis of cultural, religious and social differences in a comical and entertaining way. It also forces each of our flawed characters on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. The comedy often deals with very serious issues but allows the audience to digest it in a palatable format. The scenarios created in the movie allow the audience to reflect and ponder about the world they inhabit and their perceptions of culture, identity and community.

This ‘promised land’ is a physical place where peace can be found, but more than that, it is a metaphysical place of peace inside each of us. The Land of Milk and Money will make you laugh out loud, journey with our characters, engage with their emotional turmoil, and maybe even help you find your own idea of a ‘promised land’.

Synopsis

~The little taxi that went up a mountain as an outsider and came down as a winner~

HAPPINESS is a young man living in the back hills of the Drakensberg. Unfortunately his parents died when he was very young and he was denied a proper education. But he never ever let that deter him. He always believed in himself and always strived to make something of himself. His name is an apt one, because he always has a sunny disposition and always looks on the bright side of life.

HAPPINESS earns a living by driving the most rickety skorokoro you’ve ever seen - he’s cobbled it together over the years and it’s barely roadworthy. Which is fine because he never uses the main roads anyway. He plies his trade on the back roads, mostly ferrying gogos and their washing, from the top of the hill to the valley down below, where they do the daily washing in the river. It’s not exactly going to make him a millionaire but it’s an invaluable community service and he finds himself pretty content with his life.

Until he falls in love with PATRICIA, that is. She’s a young woman of seventeen- shy, beautiful and smart. The attraction between them is instant-written in the stars, I believe is the best description!

The problem is, she’s the CHIEF’s DAUGHTER and HAPPINESS is way below her station. The labola on her is way too high for a lowly taxi driver like HAPPINESS. Her father demands a hundred cows for her to be married! A hundred cows! That’s a lot of money, by anyone’s stretch of the imagination!

Where’s HAPPINESS going to get that kind of money?!?

What makes matters worse for HAPPINESS that the CHIEF of the village in the next valley has set his sight on his son marrying PATRICIA. He can afford the labola and so a date is set for their marriage.

So, it becomes a race against time. How will HAPPINESS avert this catastrophe? He tries various schemes to come up with the money but nothing materialises to generate the kind of money needed to buy a hundred cows. He needs a million smackers! At least!

That’s when FOUR EYES comes to his rescue. He’s an old timer, a wanderer, living in the bush. He’s half sangoma, half mad scientist! HAPPINESS is the only man in his village who takes him seriously, sees him for what he is.

FOUR EYES replies this kindness by pointing out an advert in a newspaper that magically has come to him on the wind. It literally falls out the sky.

It’s for South Africa’s FIRST TAXI RACE!

Like the AMAZING RACE, it will traverse the length and breadth of South Africa and there can be only one winner.

Now you can imagine that a race like this will attract every pimped-up TAXI in the business.

What chance does HAPPINESS have with his back roads SKOROKORO.

Oh yea of little faith, FOUR EYES admonishes him. He said he’s got a secret formula to turn HAPPINESS’s taxi into a super car!

MAQ washing powder!

HAPPINESS looks at him like he’s finally lost the last marble rolling around in his head!

But it’s the last chance he’s got and enters very reluctantly.

He soups up his skorokoro as best as he can. Puts eyelashes on the lights- even paints a number.

And all the time PATRICIA’s date of marriage is getting closer and closer!

The day of the big race arrives. Everyone laughs at HAPPINESS’s skorokoro.

He wants to give up even before he starts but FOUR EYES-his navigator for the race- insists that nothing stands in the way of true love. And the love between him and PATRICIA is the truest he’s ever seen.

And. Lo and behold, after a series of adventures and mis-adventures, the little taxi that couldn’t is the first to cross the finish line!

HAPPINESS goes straight to the market and buys two hundred cows. He and FOUR EYES interrupt the wedding proceedings. He presents the CHIEF with double the amount of cows-an offer he can’t refuse.

So, the story of HAPPINESS was written in the stars after all. He and PATRICIA get married and the skorokoro is fitted out with all the latest gadgets and features and becomes the flag ship of a brand new taxi franchise.

Like a combination of the original Herbie-THE LOVE BUG- and ROMEO AND JULIET, SKOROKORO is a hearty-warming story of the winner in all of us.

And MAQ washing powder, of course!!

Synopsis

Through soil we become connected, our lives intertwine like roots deep down beneath the earth. It is from the soil that we grow and it is the soil that ultimately becomes our resting place. To farm is to understand the volatility of soil. The soil provides, heals and restores, but the soil also takes.

Without the farmer there will be no produce, but without soil there will be no life. When the farmer becomes threatened, so does the land.

Treurgrond tells the painful story of a farming community in South Africa trying to survive the numerous farm attacks confronting farmers almost every day. These gruesome acts affect not just those closely related to the victims, but set in motion a chain of events.

Amidst the pressure and anxiety increased by the growing number of farm murders, Lukas Van Staden tries to protect his family, his friends and his farm.

Treurgrond digs deeper into a world where relationships, regret, revenge and forgiveness are brought together by one circumstance from which hope and heeling rises.

If one farm attack has such a massive impact on a community, what about all those we never hear about?

Synopsis

Louis van Est is a professional when it comes to the anatomy of the human body, yet he knows nothing about the condition of the human heart.

This GP is not your stereotypical clean cut, hotshot doctor, in fact he retreats home to his laptop where he escapes from his bland life to a world where a certain “Natgrassterrekyker” (Dewswardstargazer) inspires him to discover a part of his personality that he has always known to exist, yet never had the courage to explore. Ella Gouws, a straightforward, no holds barred speaking thirty year old, has been wounded by love one too many times. She has made a pact with herself to never allow anyone close enough to break her already broken heart, again.

Except for Ella’s chat buddy with whom she shares her dreams, thoughts and philosophies.

Magriet Gouws, Ella’s younger sister, is fervently planning the wedding of the year to take place during the silly season that is Christmas.

As Christmas draws closer and wedding arrangements contribute complications of their own, conversations between “Natgrassterrekyker” and her mystery man cover everything apart from personal details.

Ella starts to fall madly in love with the prince on the other side of the screen. Until he decides that they should meet.

Hesitant, Ella agrees.

However meeting someone you feel so familiar with, face to face can have unforeseen implications and complications. What happens when a doctor meets a broken-hearted star gazer?
